Birmingham International Airport (BHX)

BASICS
The airport is located eight miles (13 km) southeast of the center of Birmingham. The Information Desk is on the ground floor in the main concourse. The airport's Web site is being updated, so keep checking. Currently available:
  • A facilities list describing the whereabouts of taxi stands and the like, plus airport phone numbers. Plus...location of the Nappy Changing Room.
TAXI
Taxis are available directly outside arrivals. The fare is metered and will be about £11 ($18) to the city center and the convention center. Travel time is about 25 minutes.
 
TRAIN
There is a free, short monorail ride to the railway station. Trains leave every 15 minutes for Birmingham New Street Station during the day. Journey time is 15 minutes and the fare is about £1.70 ($2.50).
 
BUS
There is a public bus that departs about every half-hour for the center of town. Fare is about £1.20 ($1.80), and the journey time is 30 minutes.

AIR RAIL LINK
A shuttle bus service, Air Rail Link, does what its name promises; it links the airport directly to Birmingham International Rail Station and the National Exhibition Centre. This bus runs approximately every ten minutes and is free-of-charge.

RENTAL CAR
Major European rental car companies are represented at Birmingham Airport. Some also have offices in the city center. Birmingham is quite sprawling, so if you are traveling beyond the center it is advisable to rent a car.
