BEST WAY DOWNTOWN:
Taxi
BASICS
The airport is located 15 miles (22 km) north of the center of Caracas. Tourist information available from 7 A.M. to midnight in the International Terminal. There's no airport Web site.
TAXI
Caracas is a good city for cab riders. Fare is pre-paid so there's no dickering. You simply go to a taxi booth in the airport's arrivals hall and tell them your destination. Then pay your fare and receive a ticket which you simply give to the driver.
The fare to the center will be about 20,000 Bolivars ($30) with a travel time of about 30 to 45 minutes. The ride to the city is quite interesting as you cross over the coastal mountains.
BUS
A minibus service operates to the city center. It leaves every half hour during the day from outside both terminals and stops at the Gato Negro Metro Station and the underpass by the central park (near the Caracas Hilton). The fare is cheap, around 2,000 Bolivars ($3). Luggage space is not good so you can use this service only if you are traveling light. Travel time about 35 to 55 minutes.
RENTAL CAR
Major international rental firms along with many local firms have offices at the airport, in the city, and at some hotels. Local drivers are sometimes erratic in their roadway maneuvers, so rent a car only if it's necessary.
